    Our Hyperclean� Process Pacific Coast Feather Company cleans its down and feathers with great precision and care. Because each lot of raw materials is different, it is cleaned individually to maximize its inherent qualities. All feathers and down are cleaned in Pacific Coast Feather Company plants, with the main processing factory located in Marysville, Washington. Pacific Coast Feather Company has a special washing method called Hyperclean�. Hyperclean� materials have been washed up to eight times in cleaning agents developed exclusively for Pacific Coast Feather Company. The harsh chemicals traditionally used to clean down and feathers have been replaced by a highly effective but gentle cleaner that leaves the down and feather at a neutral pH. In addition, dust and dirt have been filtered out of the Hypercleaned down and feathers during its processing. This results in down and feathers that are cleaner than the down and feathers found in other natural products. We not only meet the government standards, we surpass them! Because our down and feathers are cleaner, they are allergy free, fluffier, stronger and longer lasting that other brands. Down and Feather Cleanliness Analysis The cleanliness of the down and feather is critical to the performance, durability and allergy-free properties of our products. There are two tests of cleanliness of feathers and down: oxygen number and turbidity. Oxygen number testing determines the amount of organic matter in the material being tested. For many years, the U.S. FTC standard for an acceptable oxygen number was 20, on a scale of 1 (best) to 40 (worst). The FTC recently recommended that the industry standard be lowered to 10. Pacific Coast Feather Company products average 4.5. Turbidity is the measure of the suspended solids, dust, and dirt retained by down and feathers. The FTC does not regulate the amount of turbidity in natural-fill products. However, the industry average is approximately 200, on a scale of 0 (worst) to 550 (best). Unwashed feathers have a turbidity of approximately 60. Pacific Coast Feather Company products average 500.
